First cycle courses

The aim of the first cycle of Education Sciences is to train professionals in specific knowledge and educational skills so that they can carry out their educational activity with children aged between 0 and 12, taking into account the specific nature of the Andorran education system.

The specific professional competences for this training are:

  • Planning, designing and carrying out teaching-learning processes.
  • Dealing with diversity and adapting to the social reality of the classroom. 
  • Knowing about the education environment in Andorra.

As well as acquiring other competences such as:

  • Skills in the use of ICT.
  • Working knowledge of foreign languages (Spanish, French and English).
  • Autonomy and work in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to organise, plan and solve problems.
  • Concern for quality and continuous improvement.

Training

To facilitate obtaining these competences through the abilities, skills and attitudes that are necessary, the syllabus for the first cycle of Education Sciences is structured into various training blocks:

  • Training in child education that provides the bases necessary to get to know and understand how children learn.
  • General and specific educational training, that provides the tools and procedures that enable students to transmit knowledge.
  • Sociological training that provides a critical reflection on the reality in which the student intervenes.
  • Language training and subjects organised into four languages (Catalan, English, Spanish and French), that enables the teaching task to be developed in a multilingual context.
  • Technological training, that allows students to master the ICT as applied to education.
  • Practical training to get to know the development of the professional task.  

Structure

The first cycle of Education Sciences is a university training which is structured, according to the guidelines of the Bologna process, into 6 six-month periods with a load equivalent to 180 European credits.
 
This training is mainly given at the University of Andorra and contemplates part of thetraining at foreign universities in France and Spain.

Professional openings

To work as a teacher in a school with children aged between 0 and 12.
To teach outside schools: in children's homes, hospitals, free-time activities and so on.
To teach adult education: reading and writing, social and labour integration, caring for the elderly and so on.
To design educational material and textbooks.

Continuity of studies

To access second cycle university studies, particularly the five-year degree in Child Development.
To access continuous training programmes aimed at recycling and professional improvement. (postgraduate courses, refresher courses and so on)
