Commitment to open access

/    /  Commitment to open access

The University of Andorra is committed to promoting the free dissemination of knowledge. In this regard, in May 2023, it joined the Agreement for the Reform of Research Assessment promoted by the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA)

The University of Andorra, as a signatory to the Agreement, is committed to periodically demonstrating its progress. Accordingly, it has published the 2023-2027 Action Plan, outlining the actions it will undertake until 2027 to promote open access.

In April 2024, the CoARA Steering Board announced the approval of the creation of the National Chapter of Andorra. The National Chapter of Andorra brings together the University of Andorra (UdA) and the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education in Andorra (AQUA) in a joint effort to improve the quality of research in the country and the enhance the impact of its results.

The University of Andorra is a signatory to the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA).

Public statement

The University of Andorra (UdA) is proud to endorse the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA). This international initiative underlines the importance of improving the way research outputs are evaluated, particularly through the responsible use of metrics, and provides guiding principles for institutions committed to this goal.

For the University of Andorra, reforming research assessment is essential to strengthening a fair, transparent, and sustainable research culture. By aligning with DORA, we seek to create an environment in which our researchers are encouraged and supported to develop their full potential, while ensuring that the quality, significance, and societal impact of their work are properly recognised and enhanced.

In line with these commitments, the University of Andorra embraces a comprehensive and inclusive approach to evaluating scholarly work. This involves recognising the breadth and relevance of a wide variety of contributions across disciplines, as well as their value to academic communities and to society at large, rather than relying solely on traditional quantitative indicators.

As part of this ongoing commitment, the University of Andorra also signed the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment (CoARA) in 2023, reinforcing its dedication to advancing responsible and inclusive practices in research evaluation.

For any enquiries regarding DORA or the University of Andorra’s plans for reforming research assessment, please contact Dr. Virginia Larraz, Director of the International Doctoral School.

As part of its commitment to open publication, the University of Andorra annually offers Grants for open access publications to UdA teaching and research staff who are members of a research group at the University.
