UdA Launches Its Generative AI Tool
The University of Andorra (UdA) has launched an artificial intelligence tool based on large language models and image generation, allowing local and secure data processing. Named Olib.IA—a blend of “òliba” (owl) and AI—the system uses open-source components adapted for safe use in a university environment.
Rector Juli Minoves highlighted the rapid pace of research in language models and emphasized UdA’s “capacity for adaptation,” encouraging continued academic investigation in this field.
Olib.IA strengthens the university’s commitment to data privacy. According to Aleix Dorca, coordinator of the Technology Research Group (GRET) and project lead, “having this AI operating within the University allows sensitive information to remain under our control and not leave our facilities,” addressing a common concern with commercial AI models.
Accessible via a versatile chat interface, the AI tool offers features such as text generation, document translation, academic work review, comment evaluation, and image generation. Currently in beta, it is available only to university staff and can be accessed from UdA buildings or through the private VPN during the pilot phase.
